Concert – Southern Tier All Star Jazz Band
Come out and have some fun dancing to The All Star Jazz Band!
The Southern Tier All-Star Jazz Band (STASJB) is a 16 piece big band along with a female vocalist that has been playing together since 1984. Although the ensemble plays a wide variety of musical styles, it prides itself on resurrecting the authentic sounds of the Swing Era, both for listening and dancing, and are the featured entertainment the first Sunday of the month at a variety of area venues.
The All-Stars were formed in 1984 when Wayland NY science teacher Bob Lewis (and member of the trombone section) called together a group of musicians to play for a dance to benefit the school’s band-uniform fund. It was so much fun that many of the participants said they ought to find other occasions to do it again. One mentioned that he knew of a local establishment that would probably be glad just to have them rehearse there. Another suggested these rehearsals could probably be open to the public, and thus the STASJB was formed.
The STASJB has played for weddings, fundraisers, festivals, dances, and concerts all over Western New York and the Southern Tier area. Whether you are a long-time fan of big band music, or are just listening to the STASJB for the first time, you are sure to enjoy the opportunity to hear live big band music at its best.
